As expected of G-Dragon! GD becomes the youngest recipient of the 'Okgwan Order of Cultural Merit' in Korean history, a well-deserved honor for a K-pop legend.

GD was honored with the Order of Cultural Merit at this year's event for his contributions to Korean popular music and his profound influence on fashion culture. This makes him the youngest recipient in history, setting yet another new record in the K-pop industry! As expected of G-Dragon!

What are the Korea Popular Culture and Arts Awards?

The Korea Popular Culture and Arts Awards (KPCAA) is a cultural award hosted by the South Korean government, jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA). It aims to recognize individuals and groups who have made outstanding contributions to the field of Korean popular culture and arts.

The vetting process is extremely rigorous. As a national-level award, unlike general entertainment ceremonies, it places a greater emphasis on substantive cultural contribution and the elevation of the national image. It is therefore considered the highest recognition by the Korean government for those who have contributed to the Korean Wave (Hallyu).

Upon receiving the award, a sentimental GD recalled his mother taking him to auditions since he was six years old, nurturing the same dream of becoming a singer. Now in his thirties, he has realized that dream and received this medal.

He expressed excitement for his future self at forty, and also mentioned that next year is BIGBANG's 20th anniversary, wishing to share this honor with his members. He concluded by saying, "As long as you have a dream in your heart, you can make your life shine," wishing everyone to always hold onto good dreams, which will one day become real!
